Ketamine effect on neuronal network oscillations
NEUROSERVICE has documented in vitro the (R,S)-ketamine immediate pharmacological activity on neuronal network oscillations in the theta, beta and gamma range frequencies.
The very quick anti-depressant effect of (R,S)-ketamine is documented by clinicians for a couple of years. Although there are still intense discussions about the targets and mechanisms of action of (R,S)-ketamine and its active metabolite (2S,6S;2R,6R)-hydroxynorketamine (HNK), the neuroactive effect of Ketamine is a true reality! Indeed, the acute effect of (R,S)-ketamine can be documented on neuronal network oscillations measured in hippocampal slices with Multi Electrode Array. The (R,S)-ketamine-induced change in oscillations is observed over a few minutes time scale in the theta, beta and gamma frequencies. The frequency changes observed in vitro can be observed in vivo over EEG recordings, in rodents and in human patients!
